Turning a Fixer-Upper Into a Forever Homestead
Our farm wasn’t move-in ready—it was a labor of love. From restoring the barn to updating the farmhouse, every project brings us one step closer to creating the homestead of our dreams. It’s messy, it’s challenging, but it’s ours.

The Journey Of Fixing The Farm
Turning a fixer-upper into a true homestead has been one of the most rewarding and challenging journeys we’ve taken. It’s been full of dirt, sweat, and a whole lot of patience. Each corner of the property tells a different story—from the weathered barn to the overgrown fields, we’ve poured our hearts into making this place our own.
Restoring The Barn
The barn was the first project that called to us. It had potential, but it had seen better days. We started by reinforcing the structure and fixing the roof, ensuring it would stand the test of time. The walls, once sagging, are now strong enough to hold hay, tools, and all the things we need to run our little farm.
DIY TIPS
Always start with the foundation! Whether it’s a barn or a house, a solid foundation is key. Use reclaimed wood when possible to keep the farm’s rustic charm while being eco-friendly.

Reviving The Farmhouse
The farmhouse needed a lot of love—new plumbing, updated electrical, and some much-needed TLC. We preserved as much of the original features as we could, like the hardwood floors and vintage windows. It’s cozy and functional now, a perfect place to come home to after a long day on the farm.
DIY TIPS
Always Focus on one room at a time. We started small with the kitchen, as it’s the heart of the home, and then worked our way out. Take the time to source the right materials—sometimes a little extra effort goes a long way in creating lasting beauty.

Reviving The Land
The land had been left untended for years, with overgrown pastures, a few broken fences, and some soil in desperate need of TLC. We’ve spent seasons restoring the land by planting cover crops, building raised garden beds, and improving the soil with compost and organic fertilizers. Each project brings us closer to the self-sufficient homestead we’ve always dreamed of.
DIY TIPS
Always start with soil testing! Knowing what nutrients your soil needs can save a lot of time and money in the long run. Plus, we learned that working with nature (instead of against it) makes everything flow smoother.

Future Projects
There’s always something to fix, upgrade, or dream about! Whether it’s installing a rainwater collection system, building an outdoor kitchen, or expanding the garden, we’re constantly adding to the list. We’re learning as we go and excited to see the continued transformation of the farm.
